Backend Engineer

The Role

As a Backend Engineer at VZ Labs, you'll build the bridges between communication channels and AI intelligence, and between AI intelligence and commerce infrastructure.

You'll design abstractions that make our product portable across any communication channel - WhatsApp today, SMS tomorrow, whatever comes next.

Example Problems

Channel abstraction: Build a unified API that makes it as easy to deploy on iMessage as it is on WhatsApp.

Integrations: You'll need to do integrations between various systems in every industry - restaurant POS systems, legacy company ERPs, or really random specialized tools. All types of integrations.

Requirements

• Strong experience building production backend systems that don't fall over
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, queuing, and reliability patterns
• Experience with API design and building developer-friendly interfaces
• Comfort working with messy third-party APIs and making them beautiful
• Ability to debug across multiple systems when things go wrong at 2am

Nice to Have

• Experience with messaging platforms (WhatsApp Business API, Twilio, etc.)
• Background in e-commerce integrations or payment systems
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and streaming systems
